Know Your Audience

Someone delivers a speech about the fascinating topic of cyber security to a group of tech freshpeople (my choice of word for a gender-neutral understanding of freshmen). He goes into intrusive detail using higly technical language. The seminar goes over the heads of the entire group. This is the case in point when discussing the significance of knowing your audience. To know one’s audience is to improve your writing work.

The question is, how does knowing your audience improve your writing? Simply, it helps you utilize appropriate language. You don’t want to sound too technical to a beginner in a field. Likewise, using too much jargon to those not in the know is counter-intuitive and counter-productive. It would be much better to speak and write plainly.

At the same time, speaking too assumedly would be equally problematic when addresing a group of experts. You wouldn’t want to assume no knowledge and waste people’s time.

In conclusion, knowing your audience helps shape and improve your writing. It is an important skills to utilize, refer to and apply.

A GDP Mistake

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is a fascination that has encompassed the minds of many. Unfortunately, understandings of GDP are not in line with economic realities. This author, like potentially many others, used to be of the mind that GDP was a cumulative figure. This is not the case. This paper discussed GDPs annual nature and analyzes other related issues.

GDP is an annual figure, go figure! It measures the final value of all goods and services in a specific period, usually annually. That is to say that the United States does not only have trillions of dollars that it has made in its history. It made around 20 trillion USD, just last year! That is a remarkable difference in fortunes.

Why is knowing this important? First and foremost, knowing the true potential of an economy should develop a hunger and desire to succeed in business, or at least to become financially secure and independent. With a select number of nation’s making trillions a year, what is achievable in terms of economic success is simply immense. Issues like inequality could be a thing of the past if people were given the opportunities they could capitalize on. An era of prosperity could all start with the common knowledge of global economic output.

Finally, knowing the definition of GDP is important for educational reasons. Having studied economic courses, it was a surprise to find out that GDP was not a cumulative figure as once thought. Education is the gateway to the future, as they say. What better way to learn than to establish accurate understandings of common terms? Surely, that is up there with skill-gaining and other knowledge attainments.

In conclusion, GDP is often an annual, and not cumulative, measure. Knowing this makes for the possible realization of economic potential. It is also useful, in educational terms, to know this fact. Hopefully, people can empower themselves with knowledge and lead the way to an era of prosperity. Humanity deserves that much.

How Much Content Should you Post?

This is a question that’s been dominating my blogging experience. I feel that all bloggers should have access to the same education and develop a good strategy to maximize their impact. This should boost the quality of our blogs, more on blog quality in another post. The key question here is how much should you be posting. With regards to content quantity an age-old wise saying applies, the more the better.

That’s great to know, but how much is enough? An article on Forbes on this topic states that you should post on 16 days of the month. That is roughly four times a week. With that said, you will be gaining traction regularly by following this advice. Basically, you should post more days than you don’t in a month.

The alternative would be to post less. If you think like a reader, rather than a bloggers, then what would you prefer? Someone who has the same content for a month or someone who posts frequently. I think the answer is pretty self-evident. That should settle the debate. What are your thoughts on this topic?

Finally, if you’re on WordPress then you can check your activity and stats. That way, you can keep track of your blogging record. You should know how much you blog to know how you can improve or to continue doing what you are doing.

Pollution Stopping Dar es Salaam from Gaining Eco-city Status

Dirty air filled with exhaust fumes from motor vehicles and factories has become the norm in Dar es Salaam. It is in dire need of environmental management strategies, as pollution becomes a potent problem. This is especially poignant as Dar es Salaam is a very green city, with a lot of flora and vegetation about in the city. It is not green, however, in an eco-friendly sense, as they are too many environmental issues to deal with, i.e. air pollution, water pollution and waste management. With regard to air pollution, more work needs to be done to outlaw failing cars and buses as well as ensure that factories embrace environmentally-friendly policies.

Air pollution is a serious problem. Old cars that are primarily used flood the streets. In peak traffic, the outpouring of exhaust smoke is not only noticeable but also growingly damaging to the health of city inhabitants. That is not to mention the state of the environment that humans and other organisms depend on. To say that the air pollution issue calls for attention is an understatement; the issue is in dire need of solving.

Water pollution is another related issue. A lot of the water sources in the city are easily exposed to the open sewage system running. People are best advised to stay clear of these water waste products, but, alas, issues dealing with human security has made the securitization of water a crisis in of itself. People need water to drink, and, in this part of the world and elsewhere, not all of that water is clean. The health and environmental issues caused by dirty water are vast and far-reaching, to say the least.

It is important to state to people who have not visited this great country and continent that much of Sub-Saharan Africa is very green. It used to be even greener, with the effects of desertification causing a growth in the Sahara. A picture of the growth of the desert throughout the ages shows how expansive and affecting environmental issues can be. Deforestation leading to pollution can cause desertification, which shows that not only is pollution a problem in its own right, but its causal factors also result in other issues in need of addressing. This all goes to show that there are is a vast network of environmental issues plaguing the city.

A lot of individuals have expressed the sentiment that environmental issues are just hoaxes and our consumption of fossil fuels is not threatening to our survival. While not all environmentalists are doomsayers, it is important to note that these issues pose a real and imminent threat. The world’s atmosphere is made up of 21% Oxygen, 78% Nitrogen, 0.3% Carbon and the remaining 0.7% are trace gases. This has not always been the case the atmosphere in the world’s distant past was mostly ammonium and methane. This proves that atmospheres can change and, sadly, it shows how vulnerable humans are as people need oxygen to breathe, carbon to remain relatively low and other needs that have not been mentioned.

Without the pollution staining the image of the city, Dar es Salaam might coincidentally be known as an eco-city. Trees decorate Dar’s landscape, making it very beautiful to behold. The seas on one side of and buildings scattered across the city can turn the city into a leading global metropolis. Effective environmental management is a must, in order to realize this dream. An unhealthy and polluted environment will stand in the way of Dar es Salaam gaining eco-city status.

In conclusion, pollution is a serious issue in need of solving. Dar es Salaam is plagued by both air and water pollution. Used cars and other forms of carbon-emitting factors are what cause the serious issue of air pollution. Desertification is a related issue, as deforestation causes both it and pollution. With all that being said and done, it has now come to the time to take action to clean not just the city streets, but also its lungs and the air we breathe.

How a fully electronic payment system can aid tax-related legal compliance, transparency concerns and the general public

Tax avoidance may seem attractive to high-earners, but tax evasion is a problem for all. Imagine, for one moment, an individual earning millions of US dollars. That same individual may understate income to deceive and defraud officials, with the aim of paying less tax; also known as, tax evasion. There needs to be a system to deal with these issues. This paper argues that an electronic payment system, which records all card and cash transactions, can help officials with evidence of income through expenditure-tracking and, eventually, a better tax collection system.

First of all, what is an electronic payment system and what does it look like? It is simply a system that utilizes cards and electronic devices to store and record all transactions. A person will be issued a card, kind of like a debit/credit card. The card will be scanned through a device with the amount of any transaction. This device will be shared with government officials, making for a better understanding of income earned for tax purposes.

Secondly, what are the benefits of the system? Electronic payments increase transparency and allow for less fraud and evasion to occur. This system also allows for cash payments to be traced, making them more useful for the stated purposes than credit or debit cards. Overall, it is the perfect system. Almost, there are, however, pitfalls of the system to address as well.

Naysayers of increased transparency will point to corresponding decreases in privacy and freedom. If people cannot buy anything without the government knowing, then what else is there? This is a fair concern. Having said that, it is a citizen’s duty to pay tax once they earn a taxable amount. Tax avoidance measures are still legal, but tax evasion is criminal, detrimentally affective to those in need and just wrong.

In conclusion, electronic payment systems can aid in tax-collection efforts. They are systems designed to record all transactions an individual makes. They aid in greater transparency efforts. Finally, they may be anti-privacy but they are also essential without being too intrusive. With the absence of a better system, governments should steamroll this immediately and enjoy heightened tax reserves.
