This is a pic of #lasgeel, an #ancient #cave #painting dating back to 18,000 BC (in Somalia). I visited this site in 2015, which was the first time I went to Somalia. With our fixation of the modern, Gregorian calendar system, it's sometimes hard to imagine that humans have been around for 30 million years. The world wasn't created 2000 years ago, or even 7000 years ago (at the start of written history). It's amazing that art existed for so long, as well. Somalia notably does not have any recognized #worldheritagesites, largely due to the fact that we did not ratify the #UNESCO agreement. We need to do so soon to overcome this sad reality, considering that the country has a lot of natural and cultural beauty, characteristics and heritage to showcase. Las Geel is just one of such sites.
