Not too long ago, I asked my followers to send me any books to review. A got a response from a Twitter user called Reese Patel. Reese wrote a book called A Series of Moments: How to Balance Achievement and Contentment in the Modern World. This is a work of creative nonfiction dealing with the enormous question of what is the meaning of life.
From the beginning, Reese states that he does not wish to advise people on how to go about living theirs. He humbly acknowledges that that decision is solely made by the person living their life, i.e. all his readers. He does however go on to make some groundbreaking discoveries and analytical claims.
He states that the old ideals of wanting to become famous and leave a legacy, wanting to get rich or just being happy is the wrong approach to how we should be living our lives. Much more importantly, we should aim to do the upmost and strike a balance between what we achieve and how happy we are.
Reese goes on to discuss this in the modern world. One big theme in the book is that of gratitude. All too often, people consider meaning in life to be an all-elusive, distant and far-reaching ideal which is unknown to humanity. Reese argues that a lot of people are already leading their dream lives.
All in all, I would give this book a five out of five star rating. It is incredible and should be ready by all would-be philosophers, career enthusiasts and basically everyone, considering that we are all leading lives and would benefit from the wealth of knowledge in this book.

Imagination is an important, groundbreaking and influential aspect of the human psyche. First of all, what is it exactly? How can we define it? Furthermore, what are the good and bad aspects of imagination? I would like to say that imagination is mostly good, in the sense that it has more pros than cons. The only negative aspect I can find about imagination will be explored here.
What is imagination? Oxford has two main definitions of the term:
Imagination:
1) the faculty or action of forming new ideas, or images or concepts of external objects not present to the senses.
2) The ability of the mind to be creative or resourceful.
These definitions show the two sides of imagination. One, is to create images, sounds and other things in the mind. Secondly, the quality of being creative is another way to understand imagination.
Now that we sorted that out, what are the pros and cons of having an imagination.? Let’s start with the pros. One can create something out of nothing if they exercise their imaginative faculties. All invention and innovation stems from peoples’ imagination. That is how significant this phenomenon is. Moreover, all art and scientific creations also come from individuals’ imagination. Imagine a world without songs, scientific knowledge or business products. How impoverished will our collective lived experience be in that case? We should thank imagination for a lot of what we have, experience and enjoy!
The one negative I can see is more medical. If you imagine all the time, like all day, everyday, then you can start experience social deficits. I read a case when someone was having social problems because of their habit of being withdrawn and imagining all the time. This does not mean we should never imagine. It just means that we should strike the right balance between imagination and life.
There you have the pros and cons. What are your thoughts on this topic. Do you think we should imagine more or less? What about the link between imagination and creativity, innovation and invention, do you think that is real? Please leave all your thoughts, concerns and ideas in the comments section. Also, please remember to like and share this post, as well as follow me, if you choose to do that. Many thanks WordPress community, I’ll be posting again soon.
I once got praise for a class assignment I wrote about my sister’s difficult birth. I then started writing and became really far-fetched with my themes, story topics and what not. It goes without saying that I did not get the same praise. Now, I’m trying to go back to my old writing style and hopefully that will pay off. What I’ve learnt from publishing seven stories and three short story collection is that your life is an invaluable resource for all your writing. Don’t underestimate it! Here’s to writing about what you know!
Muhsen Ilyes: Deciphering Terrorism; Souhail and the Realm of Super Beings and Karen, the Misbehaved Girl are all available for free on Amazon Now. Check out the links below along with the story description.
Muhsen Ilyes, a political analyst, is on the hunt for the solution to terrorism to stop ISIS from finding and destroying it. Hassan Sultan is thought to have come up with it, but died before he could release the solution to the world. He, however, left the world with a trail to his findings. Will Muhsen discover the solution? Find out in Muhsen Ilyes: Deciphering Terrorism.
A children’s story about a girl who is as rotten as she is mean. The story is a must-read for all kids developing a sense of self, character and their own personalities. It is also very short read, which can be read by kids of young ages (as young as five). Parents could enjoy reading it to their children, as could teachers to their students. Karen, the Misbehaved Girl is, overall, a worthy book for a young person’s early reading material. If you liked The Boy Who Cried Wolf, then you’d love Karen, the Misbehaved Girl. Inspired by folk stories of old, this is a cultural piece with a real message for all.
Souhail was no ordinary person. With a dark secret, he sought to fight his demons on his own. Having discovered a supernatural realm, he wanted to solve a threat to humanity before exposing it to people. Will the challenge prove to great or will Souhail triumph over evil? Find out in this novel. If you like Don Quixote, this is the book for you.

First things first, I still consider myself new to the whole writing/publishing game. That is even though I have six short stories out with three different collections. I hope to make it big and think that I have learned somethings along my journey that are useful to all prospective writers and authors (not just me). Here are my five tips to becoming the successful literature magnate that you always wanted to be.
First of all, you need to get into the habit of writing a book. If you do not have the time or resources to write an epic novel, then don’t worry. No one starts off by writing 1000+ page books. Even J.K. Rowling, who is famed for writing longer novels of 700+ pages, started off with the 300-400 page Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. I personally find that short stories are fulfilling and rewarding, in the sense that you can finish them easily and get your work out there. Poetry is another short medium which you can aggregate to form a collection. The point is that you need to write something to publish something; let’s start at that.
Secondly, pay attention to spelling and grammar. I know you may think that is the work of the editor, but no editor, publisher or audience member accepts work that is poorly written to begin with. That includes having too many spelling and grammar errors. I find that you should do the upmost, but know, when it is polished enough, an editor can help work out the kinks.
Also, you should understand the writing process. Do you want your work to be well-structured and well-written? Of course you do. So what you need to know is all that you have learnt in English, literature, reading, writing and language arts classes. If you have an English degree at university, chances are that you learned more. You do not need a degree to be a writer though, although that would be an added bonus.
In the publishing side of things, knowing your options is important. You can self-publish, meet vanity press or become traditionally published. Different people will say different things about these three options, but you should know that they’re at your disposal. Self-publishing has easy entry requirements, but you might need to pay for a cover, editing and other things yourself. Amazon has a self-publishing printing service called KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing), which allows you to self-publish you work and earn money for free.
Traditionally publishing also offers free printing services, but you will earn less royalties from them. It is still useful to have a traditional publisher, because there are some big names out there who can help you gain much needed exposure. I’ll share more on that next.
Finally, marketing is a big part of an author/writer’s work life. You wrote a book. You published it. Now, you need to ensure that people find your book and that results in you making the sales that you need to earn a living. It is vital that you do so, because, without marketing, your book will be lost in a sea other books and the chances of you gaining a readership and fanfare will be very slim.
